You have served the University of Detroit with dignity and dedication for more than four decades. Your contributions as a professor of history are well-known; literally thousands of students learned the basics of western civilization in your demanding classes. Less visible, and far more notable, is your deep personal commitment to counseling and ministry among the students. You truly live as priest and pastor, serving as a source of inspiration to students, faculty and your brothers in the Jesuit community. Your remarkable energy has been known for years, as you consistently handle a work load exceeding that of many peers. In addition, your concern and guidance has been felt by parishioners in numerous Detroit churches as you devote weekends and summers to pastoral work. Your impact on U of D and its people has far exceeded that of a teacher, for you are truly a man for God, concerned for and helping others. As you approach your sixtieth year as a Jesuit, the University of Detroit is richer indeed from your special presence.
